Football.Enterprises Names Mike Golub Chief Operating Officer
Award-winning sports business leader brings decades of team-building, venue development, and league-launch experience to global football platform.
Football.Enterprises Inc., the global football investment platform building an integrated ecosystem of club ownership, sports technology, and early-stage player development, today announced the appointment of Mike Golub as Chief Operating Officer. Golub, a nationally recognized sports executive who has helped launch and operate successful franchises across all five major sports, will oversee day-to-day operations as the company scales its portfolio of clubs and businesses worldwide.
Golub joins Football.Enterprises at a pivotal moment of growth. The company, established in 2023 by two family offices and a team of more than thirty global sport, media, and technology professionals, has recently closed an early-stage funding round, secured a $250 million strategic investment from Global Emerging Markets, and launched a $150 million bond offering to accelerate its acquisition and development of football clubs around the world. The company has agreed to terms with clubs in France, Denmark, and England and is in advanced discussions with clubs in additional markets.
“Mike is one of the most accomplished operators in sports, with a rare combination of vision, discipline, and the ability to build organizations from the ground up,” said Peter Grieve, Chairman and CEO of Football.Enterprises Inc. “As we expand our connected ecosystem of clubs and bring institutional rigor to the world’s most popular sport, his operational expertise and his proven track record of growing revenue and elevating franchises will be invaluable. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
Golub brings more than three decades of leadership across teams, leagues, and venues. He spent 13 years as President of Business for the Portland Timbers (MLS) and Portland Thorns (NWSL), where he created the blueprint for both teams’ launches and helped establish them among the most successful organizations in their respective leagues. A founding board member of the NWSL, he played a central role in the league’s creation and governance, and the Thorns grew into the highest-grossing and best-attended women’s soccer team in the world. Golub was twice named Major League Soccer’s Executive of the Year.
His earlier career includes serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Portland Trail Blazers (NBA), Senior Vice President of the New York Rangers (NHL), Executive Vice President of the Memphis Grizzlies, Director of Sports Entertainment at Nike, and head of the NBA’s Events Division, where he managed teams in New York and Tokyo and helped grow the NBA All-Star Game. He has overseen the development of major sports venues, including FedEx Forum and Providence Park, and helped lead the first NBA franchise relocation in nearly two decades. Golub holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
“Football.Enterprises is building something genuinely new—a global platform that respects the identity of each club while uniting them through shared resources, capital, and standards of excellence,” said Golub. “I’ve spent my career building and elevating sports organizations, and the opportunity to do that at a global scale, across the world’s biggest sport, is one I couldn’t pass up. I’m excited to get to work.”
In his role as Chief Operating Officer, Golub will be responsible for the company’s operational strategy and execution across its club portfolio, technology platform, and player development initiatives.
